Open Masterdata stands for the on-demand supply of product master data to the skilled trades. This replaces outdated master data processes based on DATANORM. Every tradesperson receives exactly the items they actually need at that moment (on demand) from hundreds of thousands or even millions of items. This also applies to the associated item details; only the data that is needed is loaded. For example, if no logistical data is required, it is not loaded and stored on the computer. The processes run in the background via web services (XML format, individual items). This means that every craftsman is perfectly supplied at every step of his business process without accumulating data garbage.
The standard regulates authentication, web services, and communication content. Version 2.0 is currently in development, which will also include asynchronous data transfer and a XML format for catalogs, opening up further use cases.
The Open Masterdata Standard is currently available to members of the German Federal Association for Software and Digitalization in Construction (BVBS), the German Wholesale Association for Building Services (DG Haustechnik), the German Federal Association of Electrical Wholesalers (VEG), and the German Central Association for Sanitary, Heating, and Air Conditioning (ZVSHK) via a restricted area. If you would like to gain access, please contact us. The current standard has been developed for the HVAC sector. A version for the electrical sector is in progress.
