A practical example: A wholesaler operates an online shop with over 2 million items from areas such as electrical, sanitary and lighting. Customers such as tradesmen or planners expect to be able to find suitable products quickly and accurately - such as an ‘LED light with IP65, 3000 K, dimmable’.
However, if product data is available without ETIM classification, it is often supplied in an inconsistent form: different designations (‘IP65’ vs. ‘splash-proof’), incomplete information or inconsistent formats. This complicates automatic processing, makes filter functions in the wholesale online shop unreliable and thus leads to errors in product selection.
ETIM classification ensures a clear, standardised and system-neutral description of products. This standardised data can be transferred directly into the wholesale systems. This creates targeted filtering options according to features such as protection rating, light colour or dimmability in the online shop and trade customers receive suitable results more quickly.
Advantages for wholesalers:
ETIM offers a standardised basis for the structured recording of technical product data and supports wholesalers in making their digital processes more efficient and improving the findability of products in the long term.
