ETIM is a standard for article classification that enables the uniform and clear description of product properties internationally. In the online stores of wholesalers, these classifications are used to search for and better find products through corresponding filter functions.

For example, as a manufacturer you want to sell a washbasin. You want to classify the washbasin according to ETIM so that end customers can find it more easily in the wholesale stores. In an ETIM classification, each product is assigned to exactly one article class and is defined with all relevant article characteristics. This means your washbasin will be assigned to the ETIM article class "Washbasin" with the code EC011550, because each ETIM article class has an individual ID number. This ID-based classification model enables a unique and also internationally applicable classification of products. In addition, article characteristics such as shape, color, material, etc. are now assigned to your washbasin. Each feature again has an individual ID number.
